Tom Cruise set a Guinness World Record during the filming of Mission: Impossible The Final Reckoning by performing 16 burning parachute jumps during the climactic plane sequence.
Paramount Pictures documented the feat in a promotional video, which featured dangerous aerial stunts.
“If this thing twists while it burns, I will spin and burn.” I need to get out of the twist and then ignite in 10 seconds,” Cruise says before performing one of the jumps.
During the sequence’s preparation, he also stated, “We’ll be very smart. I’m not claiming we’re risky. We’re not taking chances, obviously.”
Mission: Impossible—Dead Reckoning Part Two was billed as Tom Cruise’s final film as Ethan Hunt, with the flaming skydive serving as his final stunt in the 29-year franchise.
However, when asked about his future with the franchise at Cannes, Cruise remained evasive about leaving Mission: Impossible for good.
“I prefer that people simply watch and enjoy it. We had a great time creating it, and it has been a lot of fun. “I just want everyone to enjoy it,” the actor stated. “Enjoy this and know that it’s all a culmination that has come to this moment right now.”
The film was released in May and has grossed $360 million worldwide.
